Orava Library in Dolný Kubín aims to be a place that responds to the diverse needs of people in its region. Alongside books and traditional library services, it offers activities for children, young people, families, seniors and other groups within the community.

An important part of its work consists of projects that bring the library into topics connected with everyday life. Psychologist in the Attic creates space for psychological topics and conversation, You Can Hear Us brings reading from books into libraries, public spaces and local public-address systems, while the intergenerational project Hand in Hand connects children and seniors. The library also organises activities such as Stroller-Friendly Library, Dads' Club, Smart Lab, LEGO activities and the American Corner..

The library therefore sees its role as more than a place where people come to borrow books. It aims to create space for meeting, learning, creativity, conversation and cooperation – in other words, to be a place that lives together with its community..

The library involved students in thinking about how its spaces could be transformed into a community centre. The students explored, photographed and analysed the different spaces of the library and subsequently proposed concrete solutions, such as a new entrance design or relocating the central circulation desk. Their proposals also brought new possibilities for orientation and a more pleasant use of the space.

The library therefore sees its users not only as visitors, but also as partners in thinking about its future.

The Mikuláš Kováč Public Library presents itself as a community space that goes beyond traditional book lending. It offers opportunities for meeting, learning, relaxation and creativity for different generations.
One example is the summer reading room at the Sásová branch, which transformed a neglected inner courtyard into a welcoming community space.

The library organises activities not only in its branches, but also in public spaces. During summer 2026, it prepared nine weeks of literary, creative and educational activities, including regular read-aloud sessions in Kulturpark and a family picnic with a book exchange.
The library therefore brings literature and its activities directly to people – into parks, cultural spaces and other places where the community comes together.

The library connects literature with regional identity and children's creativity. More than 150 children contributed illustrations to the project Folk Proverbs, Sayings and Riddles through the Eyes of Children from the Púchov Region.
The resulting publication connects local cultural heritage with the perspective of a new generation and shows that a library can be a place where the community does not only receive content, but also creates it.

The How We Used to Play… project brings children, parents and grandparents together through reading, creative activities and storytelling. Participants return to the childhood of their parents and grandparents and share memories, photographs and old toys.
The library thus creates a space where generations meet and personal stories become part of the shared memory of the community.

Městská knihovna Znojmo actively involves the community in thinking about the future of the library. As part of the Znojmo YouthLab project, more than 350 secondary-school students shared their views on what it is like to live in the city, what is missing, what helps them develop, and how they perceive the library and its services.
At the end of the school year, the library discussed the survey results directly with a group of young people and their teachers. The project will continue with further meetings where young people and the library will jointly develop activities, spaces and services where young people can feel comfortable, spend time with their peers and realise their own ideas.
The library therefore goes beyond asking “What can we offer?” and also asks “What do you really need?”, giving young people the opportunity to participate in shaping the future of their library.

The Vsetín library offers activities for different generations and connects traditional library services with new skills, technologies and community activities.
Its activities include the K-LAB creative and technology workshop, robotics workshops, the Paleček children's club and digital education for seniors. The library thus creates a space where people do not only meet around books, but also learn new things, create and share their interests.

The library has introduced the Book to Your Home service for people with limited mobility – seniors aged 75+, holders of ZTP/P disability cards and people temporarily recovering from illness or injury.
The principle is simple: when a person cannot come to the library, the library comes to them. The delivery service operates regularly, on the first Thursday of each month, and is free of charge for registered readers.
The library thus adapts its services to people who might otherwise have limited access to books and other library services.

Knihovna M. J. Sychry also creates opportunities for an active community life among seniors. Through its Senior Point, the library organises regular Čaj o páté gatherings combining talks, travel experiences, music and social interaction.
The meetings take place regularly, generally on the last Thursday of the month. A programme may include, for example, a talk about Brittany accompanied by live music, as well as other topics and guests.
These activities show that a library can be a natural meeting place beyond traditional library services. It offers seniors opportunities to discover new ideas, share experiences and, above all, maintain regular contact with their community.
